Early Life and Career
KL Rahul was born on April 18, 1992, in Mangalore, Karnataka. His father, KN Lokesh, is a professor at the National Institute of Technology, Surathkal, and his mother, Rajeshwari, is a history professor at Mangalore University. Rahul was interested in cricket from a young age and started playing the game seriously when he was 11 years old.
Rahul attended Jain University in Bangalore, where he pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce. He was also a member of the university’s cricket team, where he honed his skills as a batsman.
Rahul made his debut in first-class cricket in 2010, playing for Karnataka in the Ranji Trophy. He made an immediate impact in his debut match, scoring a century against Maharashtra. His consistent performances in domestic cricket caught the attention of the Indian selectors, and he was selected for the Indian team in 2014.
International Career
KL Rahul made his international debut in a T20 match against Australia in 2014. He scored just three runs in his debut innings, but he soon proved his worth as a batsman. Rahul’s breakthrough innings came in 2016, when he scored 110 in a T20 match against the West Indies. He followed it up with another century in the same series, becoming the first Indian batsman to score two T20 centuries.
Rahul’s Test debut came against Australia in 2014, where he scored 3 and 1 in his two innings. However, he bounced back strongly in his next Test series against Sri Lanka, scoring 233 runs in three innings, including a century.
Rahul’s career hit a rough patch in 2019 when he was dropped from the Indian team due to poor form. However, he made a strong comeback in 2020, scoring a century in the first Test against Australia in Adelaide. He also scored a century in the fifth Test against England in 2021.
