Prior to the second Ashes (Ashes 2023) Test between Australia and England being played at Lord’s, veteran Australian spinner Nathan Lyon made a significant record. As soon as Lyon was included in his team’s starting 11 for this Test, he became the sixth player in cricket history to play 100 or more consecutive Tests.
Five players had already accomplished this feat before Nathan Lion, but as a bowler, he is now the first person in the world to do so.
Alastair Cook, a former captain of England, tops the list of players who have played the most consecutive Test matches with 159, while Allan Border, a former player for Australia, comes in at number two with 153 consecutive games played for his team. Australia’s Mark Waugh, who has participated in 107 straight Test matches for his nation, is up next. Sunil Gavaskar, a former Indian team veteran who has played 106 straight Test matches for India, is ranked fourth. Brendon McCullum, the starting pitcher for New Zealand, is listed at number five on this list and achieved this feat by playing 101 straight Test matches.
In order for Nathan Lyon to break the record of 500 wickets in his Test career, he needs just five more wickets. In all, 122 Test matches have been played by him throughout his career.
