Know the New Rules and Regulation of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy – For the upcoming 2023 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT), the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has put in place a number of new rules. These changes include adjustments to the bowling rules, the submission of playing XIs and substitutes before the toss, and modifications to the Impact-player rule.
Under the revised guidelines, bowlers will now be permitted to deliver up to two bouncers in a single over. Additionally, teams participating in the tournament will be required to provide their playing XIs and four substitutes before the toss, ensuring transparency and clarity from the outset.
Furthermore, there have been modifications made to the Impact-player rule, although specific details regarding the changes have not been disclosed at this time.
The BCCI’s introduction of these new regulations aims to enhance the dynamics of the game and create a fair and exciting playing field for teams competing in the 2023 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
In an Over, Two Bouncers
In order to maintain a balance between bat and ball, a new rule has been introduced allowing bowlers to deliver an additional bouncer in an over. This decision was confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) during its 19th Apex Council meeting held in Mumbai on Friday (July 7). The implementation of this rule provides pacers with a valuable opportunity to utilize the short-pitched delivery to their advantage.
Impact Player Changes
In the previous season of SMAT, a new rule called the Impact-Player rule was introduced. Under this rule, a designated player was permitted to enter the game before the 14th over of either innings. However, starting from now, both teams have the flexibility to introduce the impact player at any stage of the match, similar to the format adopted in the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). This change offers teams greater strategic options and adds an element of excitement and unpredictability to the game.
Teams need to be submitted before the toss
Another modification entails both teams disclosing their playing XIs and four substitute players prior to the toss. In contrast, during the IPL, captains were permitted to bring two sheets for the toss and finalize their XI afterwards. Notably, the highly anticipated T20 competition is scheduled to take place from October 16 to November 6 this year, with Mumbai set to defend their championship title.
