ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Schedule, Date, Venue, Groups and Teams List: The ICC Champions Trophy was a One Day International (ODI) cricket tournament organized by the International Cricket Council (ICC). The tournament was first held in 1998 and was played every two years until 2009. However, after that edition, it was decided that the tournament would be held every four years to avoid overcrowding the international cricket calendar.
The top eight ODI cricket teams at the time came together for the Champions Trophy to compete for the coveted trophy. The teams were split into two groups, and within each group, each team played a round-robin format. The top two teams from each group moved on to the knockout stage, which featured semifinal matches and a championship game.
The Champions Trophy has seen some thrilling games and heated rivalries over the years. Australia, India, and South Africa, among other teams, consistently outperformed their opponents in the competition. The most successful team was Australia, which set a record by taking home the Champions Trophy three times (in 2006, 2009, and 2017).
England and Wales hosted the ICC Champions Trophy’s most recent competition in 2017. Pakistan won the Champions Trophy for the first time after defeating India in the championship game.
