India passed Pakistan to go up to second place in the ICC Ranking. Pakistan suffered a two-wicket defeat to Sri Lanka in a game that they needed to win to advance to the Asia Cup championship, lowering them from joint-top position in the ICC ODI Team Rankings.
Pakistan was the top-ranked ODI side in the world when the Asia Cup 2023 competition began, but at the tournament’s conclusion (for them), they fell to third. Pakistan played five matches and only won two of them, which was a dismal tournament in terms of both performance and luck. They lost twice, once against Sri Lanka and once to India, and one game was canceled owing to bad weather.
Along with losing the Asia Cup Final ticket, Pakistan also lost three crucial ODI team rating points from the ICC. Prior to this match, they shared the top spot in the ODI rankings with Australia, but following the loss, they are now ranked third with 115 rating points.
In the meantime, Sri Lanka, who was 8th in the standings, recovered and moved up a spot to 7th in the most recent ICC Men’s ODI Ranking following their 2-wicket victory against Pakistan.
